Example Ministry Action Proposal

A MINISTRY ACTION PROPOSAL

For: MINISTRY OF MUSIC Subject: LITERATURE AND PERIODICALS

1.A description of proposed plan and how it relates to the church's basic purpose:
Scripture mandates that those who teach and perform music in the church be adequately informed in both doctrinal and applicable skills (Colossians 3:16, 17; 2 Timothy 2:15). Literature and periodicals are invaluable tools for assisting the musicians in maintaining excellence in instruction and performance of church music.

2.Why is this ministry needed?
As with all teaching ministries of the church, music staff members must stay abreast of new teaching, performing and administrative techniques as they become available in order to further the development of the music ministry. Resources are also available to help remind musicians to maintain awareness of the spiritual aspects of their service.

3.The Costs to the church (in detail):
Last year: $2,005.00 This year: $2,130.00
This increase of about 3% is in response to our own church's growth and the inflationary costs involved in subscription and materials. It also takes into account the growth of the ministry and the necessity that more resources be available to accommodate this growth.

4.What this will mean to the church in opportunities and costs in 13 years:
As newer techniques are learned they can be tried and integrated into a musician's technique or discarded. This will result in a refinement of the overall musical experience, both in education and performance.

5.Alternatives:
a.Music literature serials, such as Contemporary Praise, Pedalpoint and Glory Songs (to name a few) could be trimmed or discontinued. Keep in mind, however, that such serials often provide low-cost alternatives to music purchases elsewhere, and are extremely helpful when, for instance, an unforeseen situation arises requiring music that needs to be developed and performed with very little preparation.
b.Subscriptions to additional teaching, training and informational resources like The Church Musician, CCM Magazine, etc. could be canceled. Many of our staff members, however, find invaluable information in these periodicals and often integrate this practical knowledge into their respective applications.
